Gardening is the practice of growing and cultivating plants as part of horticulture. In gardens, ornamental plants are often grown for their flowers , foliage , or overall appearance; useful plants, such as root vegetables , leaf vegetables , fruits , and herbs , are grown for consumption, for use as dyes , or for medicinal or cosmetic use. Gardening is considered by many people to be a relaxing activity. Gardening ranges in scale from fruit orchards, to long boulevard plantings with one or more different types of shrubs , trees , and herbaceous plants , to residential back gardens including lawns and foundation plantings, and to container gardens grown inside or outside. Gardening may be very specialized, with only one type of plant grown, or involve a variety of plants in mixed plantings. It involves an active participation in the growing of plants, and tends to be labor-intensive, which differentiates it from farming or forestry. Forest gardening , a forest-based food production system, is the world’s oldest form of gardening. In the gradual process of families improving their immediate environment, useful tree and vine species were identified, protected and improved while undesirable species were eliminated. Eventually foreign species were also selected and incorporated into the gardens.

Situated in the heart of the South Downs, opposite the north gate of the South of England showground, the Gardeners Arms is a traditional and homely pub restaurant. Dating back to the 17th Century, the pub is cosy in the winter, with roaring log fires and traditional oak beams and glorious in the summer, with a beautiful garden; we even have deer visit occasionally and our own grape vines!
Indeed, the three dimensional Inn sign at the pub recreates the symbol of the Order of Free Gardeners, a masonic group now extinct dedicated to sharing the secrets of gardening. With a focus on great food and hospitality and dog friendly, as any great pub should be, the Gardeners Arms really is a home from home. Freshly roasted every Sunday morning and served with seasonal veg, Yorkshire pud, roasties and gravy, homemade in our kitchen.

Given that we’re currently under lockdown, we couldn’t find love at first sight in a bar even if we wanted to.
Not only do dating sites actually offer users the option of specificity, something that is notably lacking on its app-based counterparts, but they generally offer a much wider pool of singletons.
